Men's Indoor Track and Field Places Third at Bowdoin

Brunswick, ME --- Wesley DeChristofaro (Woonsocket, RI) qualified for the New England Division III Championships in two events and finished second one other as WPI men's indoor track and field finished third in a meet at Bowdoin on Saturday. Rensselaer finished first with 183.33 points as Bowdoin came in second with 154.33, WPI earned 109.33 and Middlebury scored 94.

DeChristofaro qualifies in the 55-meter hurdles as a result of his 8.12 in the preliminaries. The freshman also met the requirements in the high jump with a third-place 6-1.25.  His 21.50 in the long jump was .75 behind the winner from Rensselaer.

Joining DeChristofaro in the 55-meter hurdles at the New England Division III Championships are Tim Forrest (Madison, CT) (6th, 8.32) and Kyle Diaz (Sturbridge, MA) (7th, 8.34).

The 4x400 relay team of Stephen Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY), Ryan Shooshan (Paxton, MA), Scott Woodnorth (Milwaukee, WI) and Kyle Morette (Leominster, MA) beat out the team from Bowdoin by .01 for the top spot. Morette later qualified for the ECAC championships with a winning 14-6 in the pole vault.

Edmund Eduah (Accra, Ghana) won the triple jump and his 42-6 is a New England Division III qualifying performance. Chris Farren (Plaistow, NH) and Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) each posted third place results in the shot put (43-7.25) and weight throw (46-5.5), respectively.

Dominic Gonzalez (Lowell, MA), Josh Matte (Litchfield, NH), Brad Bailey (Sandwich, MA), and Billy Hawkins (Dartmouth, MA) raced to a second place finish in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 8:39.19.

Leading the Engineers in other events were Jeremy Francisco (Dartmouth, MA) in the 3000-meter run (7th, 9:13.08), Matt Whitman (Holden, MA) in the 55-meter dash (4th, 6.82), Ditton Kawalya (Kanbala, Uganda) in the 200-meter dash (9th, 24.44), Kocienski in the 400-meter dash (3rd, 52.22), Bailey in the 600-meter run (9th, 1:31.34), Woodnorth (4th, 2:02.93), Daniel Riches (Paxton, MA) in the 1000-meter run (6th, 2:43.81) and Lane Thornton (Sutton, MA) in the mile run (7th, 4:31.05).

The Men's Indoor Track and Field team returns to competition at 10am on Saturday when they head to Middletown, CT to participate in the Wesleyan Invitational.
