Men’s Track and Field Fifth at UMass Amherst Invite

Amherst, MA --- Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) finished second in a pair of events as Men's Track and Field finished fifth out of seven teams on Saturday at the UMass Amherst Invitational. Williams took the meet with 159 points as Albany came in second with 156.50. WPI amassed 93.5 points to finish ahead of Marist and Trinity.

Baker turned in a 181.5 in the javelin and a 167 in the hammer throw.

Also earning runner up finishes for the Engineers were Kyle Morette (Leominster, MA) in the pole vault (13-9.25) and Stephen Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY) in the 200-meter dash (22.82). Kocienski went on to a sixth place showing in the 400-meter dash (50.32).

Edmund Eduah (Accra, Ghana) and Tim Forrest (Madison, CT) jumped to third and fourth place distances of 41-7.75 and 41-6.5. Nick Everett (Natick, MA) was fourth in the high jump (5-10.5) as was Mitch Giroux (Dighton, MA) in the steeplechase (10:04.97).

In the shot put, Chris Farren (Plaistow, NH) posted a 40-8.25 for 5th place as did the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 45.91.

Leading the Engineers with top ten results were Wesley DeChristofaro (Woonsocket, RI) in the long jump (seventh - 20-5.75), Ditton Kawalya (Kanbala, Uganda) in the 100-meter dash (eighth - 11.71), Forrest in the 110-meter hurdles (ninth - 16.01), Gary Feldman (Ellington, CT) in the discus (10th - 120-7) and Todd Alexander (Foxboro, MA) in the 10,000-meter run (10th - 34:12.22).

Rounding out the Crimson and Gray front-runners were Lane Thornton (Richmond, VT) in the 1,500-meter run (19th - 4:10.52) and Josh Matte (Litchfield, NH) in the 800-meter run (20th - 2:02.94).

WPI ventures to Springfield in a tri-meet with Coast Guard on Saturday.
