Throwers Lead Women's Track and Field to Second Place in Tri-Meet

Springfield, MA --- Funmi Adebayo (Medfield, MA), Katye Milligan (Skowhegan, ME) and Kimi Joback (Bedford, NH) swept the top three spots in the hammer throw as Women's Track and Field came home second in a tri-meet with Springfield and Coast Guard. Springfield paced the field with 202 points as WPI earned 103 and Coast Guard picked up 56.

The Engineers swept the top three spots in the hammer throw. Adebayo was first with a 131-10, Milligan was second with a 127-4 and Joback was third with a 120-7. Milligan also recorded throw of 98-7 for third in the discus.

Noelle Richard (Oxford, MA) claimed the top spot in the 400-meter dash with a 58.79. Teammates Amira Yusif (Leominster, MA) and Caroline Allen (Norton, MA) followed in fifth (1:03.56) and sixth (1:05.11). Richard also took the 200-meter dash in 26.68. Behind the sophomore were Kyla Wesley (Burlington, MA) (third – 27.77), Allen (fifth – 28.20) and Yusif (sixth – 28.29).

Merrielle Ondreicka (Sutton, MA) led the Engineers in the long jump with a second-place 15-9.5. Emily Pearce (Avon, CT) and Jen Cicchetti (Mahopac, NY) recorded fourth (14-6) and fifth (14-5.25) place jumps.

Allen, Yusif, Jill Perreira (Lancaster, MA) and Richard posted a 4:23.20 to earn first place points in the 4x400-meter relay. Perreira also represented WPI in the 400-meter hurdles and posted a time of 1:17.90 for fourth. The junior also cleared 4-7 in the high jump for another fourth place finish.

Olivia Shepherd (Kingston, MA) tossed the javelin 95-5 for third and Joback logged an 89-10 for sixth. Stacey Rauen (San Gabriel, CA) was third in the 1,500-meter run (5:13.28) and seventh in the 800-meter run (2:36.53).

In the 100-meter dash, Wesley raced to a 13.35 for third as Joan Keyes (Plymouth, MA) and Pearce followed in third (13.83) and fourth (14.12). Pearce also cleared 9.25 for third in the pole vault.

Amy Babeu (Groveland, MA) finished third (19:52.37) in the 5,000-meter run and Hannah McCallum (Lafayette, CO) completed the race in sixth (20:00.19). Cicchetti and Nikole Stone () were fourth (30-2.25) and fifth (29-10.25) in the triple jump.

Caroline Eigenbrodt (Chatham, NY) was fifth in the high jump (4-5) and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (22.98), while Deanna Flaherty (Millbury, MA) grabbed sixth in the shot put (31-6).

Women's Track and Field heads back to Springfield next weekend, while select athletes will compete on Wednesday and Thursday at Holy Cross.
