Springfield, MA --- Hunter Putzke (Waterloo, WI), Stephen Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY) and Edmund Eduah (Accra, Ghana) each posted a second place performance as WPI Men's Track and Field finished sixth at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday. MIT won the meet with 218.5 points followed by Springfield (154.50) and Westfield State (92.50) in the top three. The Engineers finished with 48 points on the day.
Putzke clocked a 35:44.79 in the 10,000-meter run, while Kocienski raced to a 50.40 in the 400-meter dash and Eduah recorded a 42-3.25 in the triple jump.
The Crimson and Gray took three of the top seven spots in the hammer throw. Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) finished third with a toss of 170-2. Gary Feldman (Ellington, CT) registered a 158 for fifth as Chris Farren (Plaistow, NH) was seventh (150-11).
Josh Brodin (Mansfield, MA) crossed the finish line fourth in the 5,000-meter run 16:00.65, as Cory Adams (Northboro, MA) turned in a 16.75 for fifth spot in the 110-meter hurdles.
Brian Goodman (Colonie, NY) completed the steeplechase in 10:46.23 to secure sixth place.
Leading the Engineers in other events were Farren in the shot put (ninth – 42.75), TJ Ligouri (Westerly, RI) in the discus (ninth - 116-4), Eduah in the 100-meter dash (17th - 11.87) and Grand Raymond (Amherst, NH) in the 200-meter dash (19th - 25.09).
Men's Track and Field returns to action on Saturday when the team ventures to New London, CT for the NEWMAC Championships at Coast Guard.
