Forrest and DeChristofaro Win NEWMAC Titles as Men's Track and Field Places Second

Northampton, MA --- Five Engineers earned All-Conference honors as the WPI Men's Track and Field team competed at the NEWMAC Championships at Smith on Saturday.  As a team, WPI registered 179 points to finish second behind MIT, equalling its best-ever NEWMAC showing.

Tim Forrest (Madison, CT) won the 110 meter hurdles event with a time of 15.33 seconds. Wesley DeChristofaro (Woonsocket, RI) also came in first in the long jump with a distance of 6.72. Coming in second-place were Jay Giambarresi (Amesbury, MA) in the 110 meter hurdles (15.75) and the 400 meter hurdles (57.86), Jameel Galloway (Randolph, MA) in the high jump (1.91) and Kyle Morette (Leominster, MA) pole vault (4.49).

First and second-place competitors automatically qualify for the All-Conference team. 

Gary Feldman (Ellington, CT) was third in the hammer throw (159-1) and DeChristofaro's 6-3 in the high jump placed him third on the day. In the relay events, the 4x100 meter relay team, with Nick Aleles (Tappan, NY), Morette, Joey Collins (Standish, ME) and Ditton Kawalya (Bugolobi, Uganda), came in third with a time of 43.49, while the 4x400 meter relay team, with Aleles, Thomas Kostelak (Bernardsville, NJ), Gregory McConnell (Georgia, VT) and Kirk Murphy (Swansea, MA) finished fifth (3:34.96). 

Fourth-place finishers included Austin Holliday (Danville, CA) in the 400 meter dash (51.16), Robert Hollinger (Averill Park, NY) in the 10,000 meter run (33:08.23), DeChristofaro in the 110 meter hurdles (16.21), Ben Altshuler (Ellenville, NY) in the triple jump (42-7), Thomas Ligouri (Westerly, RI) in the hammer throw (158-6), Mike Thyden (Sutton, MA) in the javelin throw (170-5)  and Andrew Zayac (Plymouth, MA) in the 3000 meter steeplechase (9:36.11). 

Coming in fifth were Kawalya in the 100 meter dash (11.46), Aleles in the 400 meter dash (51.09), Altshuler in the long jump (20-1), Forrest in the triple jump (42-1), Feldman in the discus throw (128-1), Chris Farren (Plaistow, NH) in the hammer throw (155-2) and Tristan Richardson (Attleboro Falls, MA) in the high jump (6-3). 

The Engineers are back on track when they travel to the New England Division III Championships hosted by MIT on Friday and Saturday, May 4th and 5th.
