Women’s Track and Field Takes Second at the Springfield, Coast Guard Tri-Meet

Springfield, MA --- Julie Tevenan (Weymouth, MA) and Adrianna Davis (Chelmsford, MA) set new school records in the 1500 (4:49.51) and the 100-meter hurdles (14.87) respectively as WPI tallied 151 points for a second place finish at the Springfield, Coast Guard Tri-Meet Saturday afternoon.  The host Springfield scored 155 points for the top spot and Coast Guard finished third with 83.

Kimi Joback (Bedford, MA) and Vicky Hewey (Sanford, ME) won two events apiece as WPI posted nine first place finishes.  Joback dominated the throwing events finishing first in the hammer (146-10) and in the javelin (133-02).  Hewey crossed the line at 19:02.75 in the 5000-meter race and won the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 11:53.25. 

Noelle Richard (Oxford, MA) had a good day winning the 400 (58.43) and placing second in the 200 event (26.24).  Laura Pumphrey (East Hampton, CT) soared 5-05.75 in the high jump for the top spot and finished second behind teammate Davis in the 100-meter hurdles (15.88).  Liz Pellegrini (Worcester, MA) finished first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.93.  She also scored points for the Engineers in the 100-meter hurdles. 

Julie Eagle (Rock Island, IL) placed second in the high jump (5-03.75) and Kate Piotrowicz (Kensington, CT) threw for 101-06 in the discus.  Other notable performances for the Crimson and Gray included fourth place finishes from Caroline Allen (Norton, MA) in the 400, Jessica Orr (Westerly, RI) in the 1500, Emily Hartzell (Brunswick, ME) in the pole vault, and Lauren Richard (Plymouth, MA) in both the 200 and the triple jump.

WPI returns to Springfield next Saturday for the Springfield Invitational.
