Troy, NY – The WPI men and women's track teams showed well on Thursday and Friday at the ECAC Championships, held at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, as fifth-place finishes by Robert Hollinger (Averill Park, NY) in the 10,000-meter (32:20.25) and John deRivera (West Boylston, MA) in javelin (183-06) and a sixth-place finish by Sonja Kent (West Boylston, MA) in the 5,000 meters (18:07.93).headlined the Engineers' meet.
Other top men in a meet of the top Division III athletes on the east coast included Jameel Galloway (Randolph, MA) in the high jump (7th, 6-7) and Wesley DeChristofaro (Woonsocket, RI) in the long jump (8th, 22-9.75).
The Crimson and Gray set a school record in the 4x400 meter relay, finishing 13th (3:57.45) with a team of Anne Harris (Hamburg, NY), Kimberlee Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY), Liz Pellegrini (Worcester, MA) and Alex Price (Franklin, MA). Harris also competed in two speed events, grabbing 16th in the 100-meter dash (12.47) and 200-meter dash (25.92).
Laura Pumphrey (East Hampton, CT) took 12th place in the high jump (5-02.50), while Pellegrini was 15th in the 100-meter hurdles (15.18).
Andrea Caprio (Tewksbury, MA) was 18th-best in javelin (112-02), while the women also had 20th-place finishes in running events. Those were Kocienski in the 400-meter hurdles (1:11.10),Julie Tevenan (Weymouth, MA) in the 1,500-meter (4:54.11) and the 4x100 relay team of Lauren Richard (Plymouth, MA), Pellegrini, Price and Harris with a time of 49.72.
Amy Babeu (Groveland, MA) rounded out the female competitors for WPI with 27th place in the 5,000-meter (18:45.78).
On the men's side, Lucas Roy (Bourne, MA) placed 12th in the 1,500-meter (4:03.16), followed by Austin Scott (Waddington, NY) in 17th (4:06.40), while Tim Forrest took (Madison, CT) in the 110-meter hurdles (15.18).
Aleles represented the Engineers in the 400-meter dash (21st, 51.25), while Jacob Mercier(Madison, CT) was in the 100-meter dash (22nd, 11.06), and Ruiz-Cadalso broke one minute in the 400-meter hurdles (28th, 59.97). In the field events, Matt Butler (Lincoln, RI) took 21st in weight throw (145-4).
The track and field team will find out on Saturday which athletes will made the NCAA Division III National Championships, held out at Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, OH, from Thursday through Saturday. High jumper Julie Eagle (Rock Island, IL) and Pellegrini (400 Hurdles) are both expected to qualify, while other possibilities include DeChristofaro in the long jump, Pumphrey in the high jump and the women's 4x100 meter relay team.
