D'Amore Breaks Record as Men's Track and Field Competes at Tufts Stampede

Medford, MA --- Brian D'Amore (Medfield, MA) set the school record with a win in the 60-meter dash and was on a winning relay as the WPI men's track and field team competed at the 2015 Tufts Stampede on Saturday.

D'Amore bettered the 60-meter dash school record by .02 with a time of 7.13 to secure the victory. Joey Collins (Standish, ME), Paul-Henry Schoenhagen (Cleveland Heights, OH) and Austin Holliday (Danville, CA) teamed with D'Amore, who also finished sixth in the 200-meter dash (23.63), to cross the finish line first in the 4x200-meter relay (1:33.97). The quartet of Nicholas Aleles (Tappan, NY), Hugh Whelan (Madison, CT), Ryan Dennis (Milford, CT) and Eric Eoff (Rexford, NY) raced to the fifth quickest time in the event with a 1:35.02) to best a handful of A squads. Collins, Dennis, Aleles and Schoenhagen teamed to place second in the 4x400-meter relay.

Thomas Kostelak (Bernardsville, NJ) broke the tape with a 1:57.09 to take the 800-meter run while Lucas Roy (Bourne, MA) did the same in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:33.66. David Frederick (Orono, ME) won the pole vault (14-1.25) while Connor Morette (Leominster, MA) was fourth (13-1.5).

Collins placed second in the 600-meter run (1:24.28) as Warren Staver (Centreville, MD) was .05 out of sixth with a 1:25.70. Nate Martel (Steep Falls, ME) added a second place heave in the weight throw (50-2.75) and was followed by Shawn Ferrini (Norton, MA) in fifth (45-7) and Harry Lanphear (Manchester, ME) in sixth (45-3). Alden Graham (Pembroke, MA) earned silver in the shot put with a toss of 32-11 and Patrick Wang (Beijing, China) was not far behind with a fifth-place 31-8.

In the high jump, Brandon Hoghaug (Douglas, MA) cleared six feet for third place while Keith Guay (Nashua, NH) and Jack DeVine (Wilbraham, MA) were in a five-way tie for sixth with a height of 5-10. Schoenhagen was fourth in the 400-meter dash (52.78) while Harrison Czajkowski (Chapel Hill, NC) was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles finals.

Nick Dalton (Woburn, MA) competed in the two-day heptathlon accumulating 3,957 points to place fifth, highlighted by a win in the 60-meter dash (7.28). Austin Scott (Waddington, NY) and Andrew Zayac (Plymouth, MA) came home sixth (4:23.73) and seventh (4:24.55) in the mile.

The Engineers head to the Boston University Scarlet and White Invitational on February 7.
