Four Earn All-Region Honors as Track and Field Resets Six School Records at All-NE Championships

Boston, MA --- The WPI men's and women's track and field teams broke six records while an individual and a relay garnered All-New England status on Saturday at the All-New England All-Divisions Championships held at Boston University.

Joey Collins (Standish, ME) established the new 500-meter dash record on Friday with a time of 1:05.53 to earn the regional honor and a spot in the finals. He then shaved .13 seconds off his standard with a 1:05.40 on Saturday. Lucas Roy (Bourne, MA) also helped re-write the record book on Friday with a 1:55.38 in the 800-meter run. Austin Scott (Waddington, NY) set the mile record with a time of 4:15.58 and Ryan Moran (Pembroke, MA) bettered his own 3,000-meter run mark with an 8:36.42 on Saturday.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Austin Holliday (Danville, CA), Ryan Dennis (Milford, CT), Warren Staver (Centreville, MD) and Collins finished seventh to claim All-New England honors with a 3:18.52. On the women's side, Anne Harris (Hamburg, NY), Maya Rhinehart (Springfield, MA), Liz Pellegrini (Worcester, MA) and Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) ran a school-record 3:55.34 in the 4x400 while Maggie LaRoche (Madison, NH), Gina Capobianco (Colonie, NY), Kimberlee Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY) and Julie Tevenan (Weymouth, MA) teamed for a school-record 9:32.61 in the 4x800-meter relay. The 4x800 time was nearly 20 seconds better than the previous mark.

Moran, David Goodrich (North Haven, CT), Scott and Thomas Kostelak (Bernardsville, NJ) crossed the finish line with a season best 7:57.44 in the men's 4x800-meter relay while Tevenan posted a time of 5:08.17 in her heat of the mile on Saturday.

In the trials on Friday, Pellegrini posted times of 9.34 in the 60-meter hurdles and 25.93 in the 200-meter dash while Sara Velleca (Woodbury, CT) finished ahead of Pellegrini in the 200-meter dash (25.66). Strangio, meanwhile, clocked a 1:20.05 in the 500-meter dash. Holliday competed in the 200-meter dash (22.58), Kostelak contested the 800-meter run (1:57.61) and Andrew Zayac (Plymouth, MA) represented the Engineers in the 1,000-meter run (2:31.96) for the men.

Eligible student-athletes will close out the regional portion of the indoor schedule at the ECAC Championships Friday and Saturday at The Armory in New York City.
