Beauregard, Women's 4x100 Shine at ECAC D-III Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Westfield, MA --- The WPI women's track & field team tied for 10th and the men placed 36th at the 2016 ECAC Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships which was held on Wednesday and Thursday at Westfield State. Rowan (90.5, 61) swept the team titles followed by MIT's men (58) and Ithaca's women (57.5).

The Engineer women saw the 4x100-meter relay finish second in a school-record time of 47.08. The foursome of senior Alex Price (Fraklin, MA), senior Liz Pellegrini (Worcester, MA), sophomore Sara Velleca (Woodbury, CT) and freshman Michelle Gencorelli (Andover, MA) unofficially turned in the sixth-best time in Division III this season. Individually, Pellegrini is unofficially seventh in the 400-meter hurdles. On the men's side, senior Jason Beauregard (New Bedford, MA) unofficially moved up to 20th with a fourth-place, and personal-best, heave of 180-7 in the hammer throw. All five student-athletes now await the Saturday morning's official NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships selection release.

Sophomores Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) and Abby McAdams (Montville, CT) reset their own school records in the 800-meter run (2:14.79) and heptathlon (4,039), respectively. Strangio was followed by classmate Maggie LaRoche (Silverlake, NH) in a time of 2:17.85 while McAdams set PRs in the 200-meter run (28.13), shot put (34-1.25), high jump (5-1.75) and javelin (90-3) en route to the sixth-place finish.

Also earning All-ECAC honors (top eighth) were Pellegrini and junior Kimberlee Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY) in the 400-meter hurdles, graduate student Caitlin Walde (Edmonds, WA) and the 4x800-meter relay comprised of senior Julie Tevenan (Weymouth, MA), LaRoche, sophomore Emily Newman (Easton, MA) and Strangio. Pellegrini was second (1:01.64) as Kocienski was eighth with a PR of 1:04.70. Walde concluded her career with a season-best, and fifth-place, 38:48.66 and the 4x800 came home seventh (9:25.17). Beauregard led the men with his five points in the hammer as sophomore Aaron Weeks (Pittsfield, MA) was eighth with a PR of 183-5 in the javelin. In the final event of his storied career, graduate student Ryan Moran (Pembroke, MA) came home eighth (9:33.23) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while junior Kyle Morrison (York, ME) was just over three seconds behind with a 9:36.31.

Velleca was .06 shy of an All-ECAC performance in the 200-meter dash while Tevenan raced to a season-best time of 4:42.99 in the 1,500-meter run to go along with a 4:47.97 by Newman. Freshman Katie Nugent (Huntington, NY) took just over a minute (1:00.2) to finish the 400-meter dash as classmate Cole Godzinski (North Reading, MA) posted a 15.24 in the 100-meter high hurdles. Sophomore Brittney Lambert (Hudson, NH) cleared 5-2.50 in the high jump.

All three men's relays clocked season bests. The 4x100 team of freshman Antoine Harris (Southington, CT), sophomore Paul-Henry Schoenhagen (Cleveland Heights, OH), junior Brian D'Amore (Medfield, MA) and senior Jacob Mercier (Litchfield, NH) collaborated for a time of 42.66 while the 4x400 foursome of freshman Thomas Mackintosh (Ellington, CT), Schoenhagen, freshman Eric Salina (Burlington, MA) and sophomore Andrew Kelly (Medford, MA) crossed the finish line in 3:19.42. Junior Austin Scott (Waddington, NY), junior David Goodrich (North Haven, CT), Moran and Morrison needed only 7:54.57 to complete the 4x800-meter relay. Scott was the only individual male to clock a season best as he was ninth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:56.53.

D'Amore turned in an 11.02 and 22.85 in the 100- and 200-meter dash while sophomore Justin Trott (North Hampton, NH) posted a 33:29.49 in the 10,000-meter run. The 400-meter dash saw sophomores Warren Staver (Centreville, MD) and Kelly hand in times of 49.38 and 49.99. Sophomore Brandon Hoghaug (Douglas, MA) cleared 6-3.25 in the high jump.

The top 20 men and 22 women along with the top 16 declared relays will earn a spot in the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships being held May 26-28 in Waverly, Iowa.
