Gauthier Strikes Gold as Women's Track and Field Places Sixth at Middlebury

Middlebury, VT --- Freshman Faye Gauthier (West Warwick, RI) took home a victory with a distance of 49-5 in the weight throw as the WPI women's track & field team placed sixth at the Middlebury Invitational on Saturday.

Of the 10 collegiate teams, No. 4 Williams (178.50) claimed the team title as regionally-ranked No. 9 Middlebury (170.50) came in second and No. 17 RPI was third (97). Plattsburgh, the Atlantic region's 13th ranked team, took fourth (81.50) and No. 20 St. Lawrence (68) rounded out the top five. The regionally-ranked No. 11 Engineers followed with 63 points.

Senior Elizabeth Walfield (Bath, ME), junior Taylor Teed (Boxford, MA), sophomore Michelle Gencorelli (Andover, MA) and sophomore Cole Godzinski (North Reading, MA) collaborated for a third-place in the 200-meter relay with a time of 1:49.99. Sophomore Xandria Korn (Woodinville, WA) claimed third in the high jump with a height of 5-1.75 while junior Abby McAdams (Montville, CT) tied for third in the long jump with a distance of 15-8.25. McAdams also came home fourth in the prelims (10.21) and finals (10.24) while Korn tied for seventh in the pole vault (9-0.75).

Sophomore Carley Dykstra (Andover, NJ) and senior Sarah Muse (Portsmouth, NH) each cleared 10 feet in the pole vault; however, they placed third and fourth, respectively.

Freshman Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) and junior Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) picked up points in the 800-meter run with sixth- and eighth-place times of 2:19.58 and 2:25.32 as Packard improved eight spots to No. 30 on the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field performance list. Juniors Maggie LaRoche (Silverlake, NH) and Emily Newman (Easton, MA) secured sixth (3:08.97) and eighth (3:09.12) in the 1,000-meter run.

Freshman Callie Schadt (Brewster, MA) handed in a 5:21.20 to finish sixth in the mile and classmate Aleye Momodu (Milford, MA) achieved a sixth-place distance of 32-4.25 in the shot put. Junior Sara Velleca (Woodbury, CT) was seventh in the 200-meter dash (27.29) and eighth in the 60-meter dash (8.32), after clocking a seventh-plsce 8.26 in the prelims. Sophomore Steffany Halfrey (Hubbardston, MA) represented the Engineers with an 11th-place 19:08.30 in the 5,000-meter run.
