Abby McAdams

Cambridge, MA --- Junior Abby McAdams (Montville, CT) and freshman Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) each broke a program record as the WPI women's track & field team placed 16th at the Division III New England Championships, which were hosted by MIT.

Exactly half of the Engineers' 16 points were credited on Friday night when McAdams shattered her own pentathlon record with a second-place sum of 3,204. She won the shot put with a distance of 34-11.75 and was the runner up in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.56 while placing fifth in the high jump (5-1), seventh in the 60-meter hurdles (9.94) and 10th in the long jump (15-9). As of Saturday evening, McAdams sits seventh on the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Performance List. Packard added four points with a fifth-place, and new school record, time of 1:37.11 in the 600-meter run. In the slightly longer 800-meter run, junior Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) handed in a sixth-place time of 2:19.37. The 4x800-meter relay team of junior Maggie LaRoche (Silverlake, NH), Strangio, junior Emily Newman (Easton, MA) and Packard picked up a point with a season-best 9:49.11, which was good for eighth.

Grant also represented the Engineers in the 60-meter dash (8.16). She was also in the 200-meter dash along with Velleca.
