Men’s 4x400-Meter Relay Completes Sweep as Team Places Ninth at D3 New Englands

Cambridge, MA --- WPI's 4x400-meter relay captured gold as Men's Track & Field finished ninth at the Division III New England Championships Saturday at MIT.

The host Engineers won with 162.5 points as the Crimson and Gray totaled 25.

Sophomore Alex Rus (Newton, MA), senior Paul-Henry Schoenhagen (Cleveland Heights, OH), sophomore Nick Fleury (Hopkinton, NH) and senior Warren Staver (Centreville, MD) secured the outdoor portion of WPI's sweep of the event with a time of 3:16.06, which is currently ninth on the NCAA Division III performance list. Earlier in the day, Fleury, junior Antoine Harris (Southington, CT), Rus and sophomore William Kopellas (Needham, MA) took third in the 4x100-meter relay with a 42.10.

The 110-meter hurdles saw sophomore Fabian Gaziano (Wilbraham, MA) set a new PR for himself with a 15.25 to place fifth. Freshman Oliver Thomas (Goffstown, NH) also made the finals for WPI.

On Friday, junior Matt Rabasco (Pittsfield, MA) ran a personal-best 33:10.89 to take sixth in the 10,000-meter run. Seniors Aaron Weeks (Pittsfield, MA) and Jack DeVine (Wilbraham, MA) picked up valuable points with eight-place distances of 183-10 and 22-0 in the javelin and long jump, respectively. Junior Lucas Gagne (Franklin, NH), meanwhile, established a new best distance of 143-8 in the discus.

Select members of the team head to Dartmouth for the two-day All-New England Championships that begin on Friday.
