Packard Breaks Record as Women’s Track & Field Participates at Wheaton

Norton, MA --- Junior Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) broke the program's 1,000-meter run record while the WPI women's track & field team took part in the non-scoring Wheaton Invitational on Saturday.

Packard was the first of four Engineers to cross the finish line with a winning-time of 2:59.65. The performance also earns an opportunity to enter the Division III New England and NEICAAA (All-New England, All Divisions) Championships. Freshman Ciara Young (Milton, MA), sophomore Lauren Kaija (Reading, VT) and junior Callie Schadt (Brewster, MA) followed in second through fourth.

Senior Carley Dykstra (Andover, NJ) also earned her way into both regional meets with the 23rd-ranked clearance of 11-5.75 as part of a 1-2-3 finish in the pole vault. Freshman Bridget Wirtz (Branford, CT) and senior Xandria Korn (Woodinville, WA) completed the trio. Freshman Janelle Knight (Santa Barbara, CA) won the 200-meter dash with the 33rd-ranked time of 26.51 while junior Ari Rozen (Carver, MA) and sophomore Keely Nistler (Vadnais Heights, MN) were 1-2 in the mile with a 5:21.26 and 5:21.55, respectively. Knight was also the runner up in the 60-meter dash with an 8.07.

Korn was second with a height of 5-3 in the high jump while senior Katie Nugent (Huntington Station, NY) was second in the 400-meter dash (1:01.92). Sophomore Elizabeth Kirschner (South Hamilton, MA) came home third in the long jump (16-9.75), as did sophomore Allison Kloeckner (Shelburne, VT) in the shot put (34-8.25) and junior Faye Gauthier (West Warwick, RI) in the weight throw (46-2.5). Sophomore Abby McGahey (Canandaigua, NY) represented the Engineers in the triple jump with a 31-7.5.
