Nippert Claims 60 Meter Race as Women’s Track & Field Competes at URI Coaches Invitational

Kingston, RI --- The WPI women's track and field team continued the season on the road at URI Coach's Invitational on Saturday at Mackal Field House. The Engineers tallied nine top-10 finishes at the event, which featured competition from NCAA Division I, II, and III teams. 

WPI was paced by Katy Nippert (Salem, NH) and Janelle Knight (Santa Barbara, CA) who each picked up two individual top-10 finishes, while competing on the fourth place 4 x 400 meter relay team. Nippert won the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.88 seconds, while also taking second in the long jump with a best leap of 5.50 meters. Knight was sixth in the 60 meter dash (7.99 seconds) while taking eighth in the 200 meter dash (26.34 seconds). 

In the 4 x 400 relay, Nippert and Knight teamed up with Leithsa Dimanche (Billerica, MA) and Isabel Hallal (Foxboro, MA) to place fourth overall in a time of 4:11.06. 

Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) and Sarah Ossing (Catonsville, MD) each tallied top 10 finishes in distance events. Guilfoyle was sixth in the 1000 meter run in a time of 3:05.11 with Ossing taking ninth in the 3000 meter run, recording a time of 10:57.91. 

Rounding out the results, Olivia Spielberger (Hingham, MA) was eighth in the triple jump with a best attempt of 10.78m, while Elizabeth Matticoli (South Brunswick, NJ) was eighth in the shot put finishing at 11.01m. 

WPI is back in action next weekend, splitting action at a pair of meets. The Engineers will compete at BU's Terrier Invitational on Saturday and also at the two day Tufts Branwen Smith-King Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
