School Records Fall for Women’s Track and Field at Tufts Cupid Invitational

Medford, MA --- Katy Nippert (Salem, NH) continued to etch her name into the WPI record book, highlighting the Engineers' women's track and field team in action at the Tufts University Cupid Invitational. 

Nippert improved on two school records at the event, winning the long jump and taking second in the 60 meter dash. In the long jump, she went 5.71m (18-09.00) in the finals, which breaks her own school record and ranks fifth overall in Division III. In the 60m, Nippert again bested her own school record, going a blazing 7.83. 

Classmate Vivienne Evans (Newtown Square, PA) also made her mark in 60 meter dash, finishing third overall with a time of 7.87, equaling the second best time ever run at WPI. 

Nippert and Evans teamed up with Janelle Knight (Santa Barbara, CA) and Jazmyn Ewing (Worcester, MA) to win the 4x200m relay. The foursome recorded a time of 1:43.68 in the victory, just .06 off the school record mark set in 2016. 

Other WPI student-athletes who recorded individual top five finishes included Nicole Whipkey (Portland, ME), Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY), and Bridget Wirtz (Branford, CT). Whipkey was third in the 1000m event, going 3:07.47, while Guilfoyle was fifth in the 800m run (2:23.80) and Wirtz was fifth in the pole vault with a season best 3.25m (10-8). 

In the other relay events, the 4x800m relay of Abby Hodges (North Easton, MA), Charlotte Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY), Whipkey and Guilfoyle placed second in 9:47.98, while the 4x400m team of Nippert, Knight, Isabel Hallal (Foxboro, MA), and Leithsa Dimanche (Billerica, MA) finished fourth in a time of 4:06.55. 

The Engineers are back in action Friday, competing at the at BU Valentine Invitational.
