Waterville ME --- The 20th-ranked WPI women's track and field team placed eighth overall at the 2022 New England Division III Championships held at Middlebury College on Friday and Saturday. The finish tied the program's best ever placement at the event, matching the 2019 and 2003 teams.
Overall, WPI student-athletes recorded seven All-New England honors, led by Katy Nippert (Salem, NH), who racked up three of the seven nods.
Nippert had herself a day, winning the long jump, placing second in the 60-meter dash, and taking fourth in the 200-meter dash. In the long jump, her winning leap was 5.81m, setting a facility and a championship to earn All-New England honors. In the 60-meter dash, she was the runner-up, going 7.73, while in the 200-meter dash she was fourth in 25.66.
Also earning individual All-New England finishes for WPI were Vivienne Evans (Newtown Square, PA) and Deidra Anderson (Billerica, MA). Evans was sixth in the 60-meter dash, with a personal best time of 7.83, while Anderson was seventh in the 800-meter run in 2:22.03.
Two Engineer relay squad finished with All-New England placements, as well. The 4x800 team of Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY), Nicole Whipkey (Portland, ME), Charlotte Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) and Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA) combined to run a 9:42.52 and take seventh overall. In the 4x200, it was the Engineer team of Jazmyn Ewing (Worcester, MA), Leithsa Dimanche (Billerica, MA), Sophia Lally (Chatham, NJ), and Isabel Hallal (Foxboro, MA), who teamed up to place seventh in 1:49.12.
Select athletes will compete at next weekend's Tufts Last Chance Meet to attempt qualifying for the 2022 NCAA Division III Championships which will be held in Winston-Salem, NC, March 11-12.
