Lowell, MA --- The 10th-ranked WPI women's track and field had a solid showing at the George Davis Invitational hosted by UMass-Lowell on Saturday. The Engineers saw a school record go down while picking up 12 top-ten finishes.
Skylar Barthelmes (Dartmouth, MA) continued her outstanding spring, twice setting the program standard in the hammer throw, while finishing first in both the shot put and the discus. In the hammer, her second throw of the day went 51.85m besting her own school mark. Three throws later, Barthelmes did it again, setting an even higher school standard with a 53.00m throw, finishing second overall.
Elsewhere, Barthelmes' winning throw in the discus went 43.73m and she won the shot put with a best mark of 13.36m.
Other top field performances included a third-place finish from Morgan Collins (Hudson, MA) and a sixth-place finish from Dreya Martin (Franklin, MA). Collins threw 38.16m to take third in the discus, while Martin went 1.55m to go sixth in the high jump.
Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) had a great day with third-place finishes in both the 1500m and as part of the 4x400m relay squad. In the 1500, she ran a 4:40.43 in her season debut, a mark good enough to qualify her for the D3 New England Championships. Anchoring the 4x400 with Leithsa Dimanche (Billerica, MA), Isabel Hallal (Foxboro, MA), and Lora Dufresne (Sutton, MA), the foursome clocked in at 4:06.73 to take third.
Nicole Whipkey (Portland, ME) also hit a D3 New England Championship standard at the event. She finished third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:03.22.
Katherine Pawlak (Westford, MA) collected a pair of fourth-place finishes. In the 100-meter dash, she ran a 12.69, while in the 200-meter dash, she went 25.85.
Rounding out the meet for the Engineers were top-ten track finishes from Charlotte Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) and Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY). Kokernak ran a 12:21.20 to place fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase, while Guilfoyle's time of 2:21.07 ranked her eighth in the 800-meter event.
WPI is back in action at the 2022 NEWMAC Championships. The event is being hosted by Smith on Saturday, April 30.
