New Orleans, LA -- The WPI men's and women's track & field programs earned 2022 NCAA Division III United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team honors for the 15th-straight season in addition to recognizing a total of 16 All-Academic Athletes among both programs as announced by the USTFCCCA on Wednesday.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards: participated at the Outdoor National Championships or competed as a member of one of the top 35 relay teams on the official NCAA Descending Order list.
The women's track & field squad compiled nine USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes featuring junior Abby Calistra (North Attleboro, MA), sprinter Jazmyn Ewing (Worcester, MA), sophomore Elizabeth Matticoli (South Brunswick, NJ), and senior Katherine Pawlak (Westford, MA) as newcomers. Returning honorees include graduate students Skylar Barthelmes (Dartmouth, MA), Katy Nippert (Salem, NH), Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA), sophomore Vivienne Evans (Newtown Square, PA), and senior Janelle Knight (Santa Barbara, CA).
On the men's side, there were seven welcoming sophomore Tristan Andrew (Newtown, CT), junior Nicholas Fiorenza (Oakton, VA), seniors Owen Lally (Lebanon, CT) and Nate Meyer (Princeton, MA), and freshman Michael Neff (West Hartford, CT). Earning repeat honors to the All-Academic Athlete list are graduate students Benjamin Steeves (Hollis, ME) and Oliver Thomas (Goffstown, NH).
For a team to be recognized, its cumulative team GPA of all student-athletes who used a season of eligibility must be at least a 3.1 on a 4.0 scale through the spring 2022 semester/quarter.
Both men's and women's squads were recognized for All-Academic team honors after posting cumulative GPAs of 3.62.
