Packard, Hadley, Reynolds Nab All-New England Honors at NEICAAA Championships

Dedham, MA --- The WPI track and field team combined for three All-New England honors as the Engineers competed at the 2023 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Championships. Battling teams from NCAA Divisions I, I, and III, WPI placed tied for 20th on the women's side with 16 points and tied for 31st on the men's side with five points. 

Earning All-New England honors for WPI were graduate student Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA), and seniors Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA) and David Reynolds (Andover, NH). 

Packard ran a speedy season-best time of 2:09.80 in the 800-meter run to claim her All-New England honor. She was just .65 seconds off the pace of the winner now has the fifth-fastest time in Division III this season. 

Hadley nabbed All-New England honors in the 5,000-meter race, finishing as runner-up. Her time of 17:02.90 was the top Division-III time in the race. 

Reynolds raced to a fourth-place finish in the 10,000-meter event to earn his All-New England honor. He compiled a time of 30:52.82. 

Both senior Abby Calistra (North Attleboro, MA) and sophomore Ryan Fischer (Merrimack, NH) narrowly missed All-New England nods, taking ninth in their respective events. In the javelin, Calistra finished with a best throw of 37.63m, while Fisher ran a personal best 9:33.35 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. 

Fifth-year Brian Brooks (Brewster, MA) ran a season-best time of 1:53.35 to place 11th overall in the 800-meter event. 

Senior Nicholas Fiorenza (Oakton, VA) competed in two events this weekend. In the 110-meter hurdle prelims, he ranked 12th overall in 14.85, while in the 400-meter hurdle prelims he was 16th in 55.55. Graduate student Anthony Algieri (Nutley, NJ) also raced at the 110-meter distance, going 15.77 to place 28th. 

Senior Kaylee Gladu (Woonsocket, RI) and graduate student Andrew Yatsuhashi (Reading, MA) nabbed top-20 finishes in their respective events. Gladu closed her career with a 40:05.33 in the 10,000-meter race, while Yatsuhashi was 19th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:19.36. 

In the javelin events, junior Elizabeth Matticoli (Kendall Park, NJ) took 17th on the women's side with a 34.10m throw, while sophomore Michael Neff (West Hartford, CT) took 21st on the men's side with a throw of 49.69m. 

After Reynolds in the men's 10,000-meter race, junior Connor Gaudette (Holden, MA) took 26th in 33:59.61, while sophomore Sean Corman (Waterford, CT) was 27th in 34:23.13. 

Graduate student Nicole Whipkey (Portland, ME) closed out the WPI performances with a 23rd-place finish in the 800-meter event, going 2:21.15.
