Hello from Daytona Beach!

The Women's Basketball Team departed from Logan Airport early this morning, and had a smooth and safe flight to Orlando.

After driving to Daytona Beach and checking into the hotel (which is right on the beach!) we got into basketball-mode. We walked across the street (convenient ;)) to practice at the Ocean Center Arena where we will play our games. It felt good to get a good workout in!

Following practice we hung out before a scout session and a team dinner. It was a very busy but productive day, and the team is ready to get after it again tomorrow (and enjoy the sun!)

Day 2 here in Daytona Beach!

WBB started the day off with a yummy breakfast filled with eggs, muffins and fruit. The team had a film session, and then headed to Seabreeze High School for practice, land of the Sandcrabs (haha).

To cool down after practice, the whole team decided to take a dip in the ocean. To our surprise, the water was much warmer than we expected. You can see us frolicking in the waves on our Instagram: WPIWomensBasketball. We definitely got some crazy looks after taking that swim!

The team relaxed and fueled up with a dinner at a restaurant in our hotel, courtesy of our lovely coach G$. The team concluded with a film and scout session, and dreamt about winning our game tomorrow!

It's game day for the Goats!

The day started off with breakfast at the hotel (we were hungry… but not just for food). We had our run thru in one of the hallways of the hotel, adapting and adjusting like always. After, we walked over to the Ocean Center Arena, where we would face Kings College at 12 o'clock.

Due to the great scouting by our coaches, we were prepared to face this tough and challenging team. From the get-go, we worked as a unit and played our WPI "system basketball" for 40 minutes. It was a quality team win!  We are now 9-1, continuing the best start in school history!

We showered, ate subs and focused our energy on our next challenge: Alvernia University. We had a detailed scout session, ensuring that we had a specific game plan for tomorrow.

After a day full of hoops, we were able to relax a little. Some of the team headed down to the beach to collect seashells and take pics!  Others checked out the shops. Then we fueled up with some chicken parm (S/O Ama Biney) and salad (for our gluten-free peeps), and played some hilarious card games. After lots of laughs, the team tucked themselves into bed, making sure to get a sound sleep for tomorrow's game.

WBB will be back in action tomorrow versus Alvernia at 10 am. Make sure to check the WPI Athletics website for live stats :). #HornsUp

December 21, 2015

Today was an exciting day for WBB!! An early wake up call for breakfast (but at least we got to wake up to the sound of waves). The hotel provided breakfast again, and then we headed over to the Ocean Center Arena one last time for our final game. We faced Alvernia University, a team that can shoot lights-out threes and has a dominant inside presence.

We battled and fought our way through each quarter coming out with a 67-51 victory. Another great team win where our defense shined again, but the highlight was definitely Ama Biney's 21 points (go best friend ;)).

We quickly headed back to our hotel across the street, showered and packed up, and hopped on the bus to go to Orlando. Some of the team went to Downtown Disney and hung out at the pool, and the rest went to Disney World! They ventured to Magic Kingdom, where they saw the incredible Castle, rode Spash Mountain and Space Mountain, and got some good laughs in playing Heads Up in line.

Overall, this trip has been a great bonding experience for the team. We learned a lot about ourselves on and off the court, and we are really proud of how we took care of "business" (as coach says…).

I hope you have enjoyed this daily blog. We are off for a week to enjoy the Holidays with family and friends. We wish you a Happy Holiday season as well. You can see WBB back in action, Saturday, January 2nd at Simmons College!

Thank you!
