WORCESTER – Junior Spencer Vinson (Los Angeles, CA) was named to the All-Tournament team as the Engineers held off Roger Williams, 46-42, Monday in the consolation game of the WPI Holiday Tournament in Harrington Auditorium. Roger Williams was represented on the All-Tournament team by junior Sam Leone (Ashland, MA).

The Engineers conclude the 2018 portion of their schedule with a 6-5 ledger while the Hawks end the calendar year 3-9.

Vinson followed up Sunday's 20 point, 14 rebound performance with 18 points, four boards, two assists, two steals and a block. Sophomore Caitlin Boermeester (Billerica, MA) went 2-3 from the field and 4-4 at the line for eight points while freshman Bailey Savage (Charlton, MA) and senior Alyssa Paul (Schaghticoke, NY) combined for 11 of the Engineers 31 rebounds. Freshman McKenna Finken (Simsbury, CT) added five points and classmate Alex Scariati (Scotch Plains, NJ) handed out a game-high four assists.

Leone handed in eight points and a team-best seven rebounds for the Hawks. Sophomore Sam Mancinelli (Peabody, MA) paced the squad with 14 points and four steals. Junior Gabby Jerahian (Quincy, MA) added seven points, followed by freshman Emily Yonych (Cheshire, CT) with six. Sophomore Alyssa Grant (Berlin, CT) was second on the team with six rebounds on the day.

The first quarter belonged to Vinson and the Engineers. The junior netted 10 of WPI's 17 points including seven in a 10-0 run toward the end of the frame. The outburst began with a triple by Scariati. The home team went up by 11 following a layup by Savage and a scoop and score by freshman Melanie Presseau (Manchester, NH) with 7:15 remaining in the half. Freshman Victoria Mirecki (Rock Tavern, NY) made it a 12-point game with a layup with 1:23 to go before the break. Three free throws by the Hawks cut the deficit to nine ahead of the intermission.

While Roger Williams edged WPI by a point in the middle stanzas, the Engineers claimed an 11-point advantage twice in the third. Maninelli was able to get the guests within two in the final 3:55; however, Mirecki hit a layup and Boermeester converted a pair of freebies for a late six-point cushion. Mancinelli had the final say with a buzzer-beater for the 46-42 final.

The Engineers resume NEWMAC action Saturday when they welcome Mount Holyoke for a 2pm contest. Roger Williams jumps back into CCC action Thursday, hosting Wentworth at 5:30pm.
