Courtney Chase enters her second season in 2022-20223 as the full-time assistant for the WPI Women’s Basketball program.. Chase came to WPI from Hartwick (NY) where she served as an assistant under Head Coach Katie Mercella. Hartwick finished 14-12, making an appearance in the Empire 8 tournament.
In Oneonta, Chase developed scouting reports, assisted with recruiting, organized fundraising efforts, managed social media platforms, and produced monthly newsletters for the Hawks women’s basketball program. In addition, Chase was a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee at Hartwick.
Prior to Chase’s trip to Oneonta, she served as a volunteer assistant for the Mount Holyoke women’s basketball program in 2018-19 while as a graduate assistant for the Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management at UMass Amherst.
The New Jersey native was a member of the William Smith women’s basketball team for four years and was selected to the Liberty League All-Academic Team in her final three seasons and was a co-recipient of the 2017 Barbara Easton Regan Basketball Coach’s Award.
Additionally, Chase was selected among membership to participate in the virtual leadership development for women in college athletics through Women Leaders in College Sports Women’s Leadership Symposium last past April.
The first-year Engineer assistant coach graduated magna cum laude from William Smith with a bachelor’s degree in media & society with minors in writing & rhetoric and sociology. In February of 2020, Chase obtained a master’s degree in sports management from the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst.
