Oneonta NY --- Freshman Brian Jennings (Danbury, CT) placed third at 125 pounds Saturday to pace WPI's ninth-place showing at the Red Dragon Invitational hosted by Oneonta State.
Joining the freshman on the All-Tournament podium was senior Tyler Howe (Danbury, CT) at 157 pounds and classmate Anthony Corbo (Port Washington, NY) at 285.
Jennings dropped his first match of the day before rattling off five straight wins, including a pair of pins and a major decision to claim third place.
Howe finished in fourth place at 157 pounds, marking the third time he placed in the top six Oneonta State. The senior won three of five matches Saturday, include two by pin and another by tech fall. Tom Lacroix (Salem, NH) aided the Engineer effort by registering a 2-2 record at 157 with a pin.
Corbo turning in a fifth place showing at heavyweight, just a week after concluding the football season for the Engineers. Corbo posted a 3-2 mark and won a match with a pin.
Other claiming wins on Saturday for WPI included Stephen Poppa (Derby, CT) and Joe Vanni (Hamilton, MA) with pins at 133 and 174 respectively and Mike Perruccio (Pelham, NH) at 141.
Also wrestling this weekend for the Crimson and Gray was Ethan Truong (Holbrook, MA) at 141, Matt Taber (Berkley, MA) at 149, Stephen Tsai (Marlboro, MA) at 157 and Garrett Yablonski (Mt. Sinai, NY) at 184.
WPI is off until Saturday, December 4th, when they participate in the Southern Maine Tournament.
