Oneonta, NY --- Senior Tyler Howe (Danbury, CT) won all three of his matches as the WPI wrestling team participated Saturday at the Oneonta State quad meet in upstate New York. As a team, the Engineers dropped all three matches, falling to the host Red Dragons (26-15) and coming up on the short end of decisions to New England powers Johnson & Wales (32-6) and Williams (33-9).
Howe improved his record at 157 pounds to 13-5 on the season by registering a pin versus his opponent from Johnson & Wales and decisions against foes from Oneonta State and Williams.
Also winning by decisions for the Engineers versus Oneonta State and Williams were freshman Tom Lacroix (Salem, NH) at 165 pounds and heavyweight Anthony Corbo (Port Washington, NY). Corbo nearly won three times as he dropped a tough decision in the second sudden victory session to his regionally-ranked opponent from Johnson & Wales.
Brian Jennings (Danbury, MA) also added a victory for the Crimson and Gray when he started the day off with a triumph at 125 pounds against Oneonta State.
Johnson & Wales won all three matches on the day, including a 19-16 victory over Williams and a 27-17 win versus Oneonta State. The host Red Dragons knocked off Williams 21-17.
WPI is now 0-4 on the season. The Engineers are off until Wednesday, January 12th, when they open their home slate with a 7pm dual meet against Rhode Island College.
