Northfield, VT --- The WPI wrestling team closed out its 2011-12 dual meet schedule with a 31-12 road loss at Norwich on Saturday afternoon.
WPI received a pin by Mike Perruccio (Pelham, NH) at 141 pounds and decisions from Tom Lacroix (Salem, NH) and Alex Freilich (Worcester, MA) at 165 and 174 respectively to account for its scoring on the day.
Norwich got out of the gate fast. A forfeit win at 125 and another last-minute win for freshman Alex Stewart (Ellicott City, MD) put the Cadats up 9-0. WPI came back with Perruccio's pin at 141, but sophomore David Pinto (Milford, MA), proving his No. 8 ranking on the New England Wrestling Coaches Association poll, answered with a pin in the final second at 149.
The hosts built its lead even further with decision wins from sophomore 174-pounder Chris Schenk (Newnan, GA) and sophomore 197-pounder Frannie Armstrong (Hanover, MA). Sophomore heavyweight Anthony Joyce (Lincoln, RI) ended the dual with a fall for his 18th win of the year
The Engineers wrap up its dual meet season with a 4-12 mark and now turn their attention to the New England Wrestling Association Championships. The two day event will be held Saturday, February 25th and Sunday, February 26th at Wesleyan.
