Collegeville, PA --- Teddy Kostopoulos (Devon, CT) and Justin Marsh (Upper Black Eddy, PA) both tallied four victories and Brian Amato (Newington, CT) registered three wins as the WPI wrestling program split four matches Saturday at the competitive North-South Duals hosted by Ursinus.  The Engineers opened the day with dramatic 22-15 triumph over Merchant Marine before falling 26-12 to nationally-ranked Stevens and 33-12 to the host Bears.  WPI wrapped up the day by defeating Elizabethtown 30-13.

In the opener against Merchant Marine, the Engineers bookended the match with important victories.  Amato, New England's top-ranked 125 pounder, kicked things off with a 10-5 victory over a nationally-ranked competitor while Kostopoulos bumped up from 197 to heavyweight and notched a pin in overtime (7:49) to secure the win for WPI.

The Engineers trailed 6-3 through three bouts but rattled off four straight victories beginning with Tyler Tilbe (Woodbury, CT) posting a 9-0 major decision in his season debut at 149 and win by decision from Tanner Burke (Derry, NH) 6-5 at 157, Andy Tanner (Danville, NH) 4-2 in sudden victory 2 at 165 and Marsh 8-6 at 174.  The Mariners stormed back to close within one point with a pair of wins, including a pin, in the next two bouts setting the stage for Kostopoulos' heroics.

In the final match of the day the Boynton Hillers jumped out to a 6-0 bulge with a 10-8 sudden victory win by Amato and a 7-4 decision from Stephen Jendritz (Rockford, MI) at 133.  Following a Elizabethtown triumph at 141, WPI captured four consecutive bouts with the same quartet of Tilbe, Burke, Tanner and Marsh carrying the mail with the middle duo recording valuable pins. Kostopoulos closed out the match with a second period pin at heavyweight.

Against the nationally-ranked (#20) Ducks, Jack Nigro (Closter, NJ) posted a 10-5 win at 141 pounds while Marsh took home a 5-3 decision at 174 and Kostopoulos had his hand raised at 197.  Amato got WPI off on the right foot versus Ursinus with a hard-earned 3-2 victory at 125.  Marsh took home his third straight win with a 8-2 decision at 174 and Kostopoulos collected his third six-point victory of the day with a pin in the final 15 seconds at 197.

WPI returns home Wednesday for its first dual meet of 2015.  The Engineers will take on Western New England beginning at 7pm in the Sports and Recreation Center.
