Jendritz and Lind Victorious Twice for Wrestling at Roger Williams Tri-Match

Chase Lind

Bristol, RI --- Stephen Jendritz (Rockford, MI) and Chase Lind (Fairfield, CT) both won twice as WPI went on the road Saturday and split a New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) tri-match at nationally-ranked Roger Williams.  The Engineers (8-3) began the day by knocking off Trinity 42-9 before falling to the No. 6 Hawks 23-9 in the final match of the day.

The Crimson and Gray used a fast start to overwhelm the Bantams in the opener. Brian Amato (Newington, CT) was awarded a forfeit to start at 125 pounds followed by a quick Jendritz first period pin (1:19) at 133 to put the Engineers up 12-0 early.

After Trinity broke into the win column with a 4-2 decision at 141, WPI put the matchup away with six straight victories to cruise to the team triumph.  Tyler Marsh (Upper Black Eddy, PA) began the onslaught with a pin at 3:54 at 149 pounds.  The Boynton Hillers then went the decision route in the next two bouts as Jack Nigro (Closter, NJ) grinded out a 3-1 victory at 157 before Chase Lind (Fairfield, CT) posted a 14-1 major decision at 165.

Lucas Muntz (West Hartford, CT) continued the spurt by delivering a third period fall (5:36) at 174 pounds and Dan Wensley (Wakefield, MA) made quick work of his foe at 184 by registering a 15-0 tech fall 3:18 into his bout.  Michael Curtis (Wells, ME) closed out the run of six consecutive wins with a pin 2:06 into his match at 197.

Nationally-ranked Roger Williams began the nightcap by taking a 5-4 decision in a match-up of regionally-ranked wrestlers at 125 pounds before Jendritz answered back to tie the match at 3-3 with a 2-0 shutout at 133.  The Hawks seized control of match with by rattling off wins in six of the last eight bouts, including one-point victories at both 141 and 184 (in SV1).  Lind notched a 6-4 triumph at 165 pounds to temporarily halt the momentum before Austin Shrewsbury (Westfield, MA) recorded a 7-0 shutout at heavyweight to close the day of wrestling.

WPI is back in action a week from Sunday at the NEWA Duals hosted by Johnson & Wales.  Wrestling is scheduled to start at 10am.
