Matt Oney ’90 Selected as Head Wrestling Coach at WPI
June 15, 2018WORCESTER -- WPI Director of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics Dana L. Harmon announced the hiring of Matt Oney ’90 as the Head Wrestling Coach. He takes over the program from fellow alumnus Steve Hall ’87, who retired following the program’s best season since the Phil Grebinar era. -
WPI Honors 11 Major Award Winners During Annual Athletic Banquet
May 31, 2018WORCESTER – The WPI athletic department recently honored all of its 20 varsity teams which encompasses over 600 student-athletes at its annual awards banquet. During the festivities, 11 student-athletes were presented with major awards. These accolades highlight some of the best varsity student-athletes at WPI who excel both in the classroom and in their respective sports. -

Hall to Retire as WPI Wrestling Coach
May 02, 2018WORCESTER -- WPI head wrestling coach Steve Hall has announced that he will be retiring from his coaching responsibilities but will remain with the department to focus on alumni relations and special projects. A national search for a new wrestling head coach will begin immediately. -

Wrestling's Marion Lauded as Co-Rookie of the Year as NEWA Announces 2017-18 Awards
March 23, 2018Middletown, CT -- Brendan Marion (Norristown, PA) was tabbed as the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Co-Rookie of the Year while head coach Steve Hall ’87 took home the association’s Coach of the Year award. Tyler Marsh (Upper Black Eddy, PA) added to the Crimson and Gray honors by being selected the All-NEWA first team while six others drew honorable mention praise from the conference and 13 were named to the all-academic team. -
Zogby, Lind, Marsh, Marion Honored by NWCA as Scholar All-Americans
March 11, 2018Manheim, PA --- Senior Ben Zogby, sophomores Chase Lind and Tyler Marsh and freshman Brendan Marion have been tabbed as Division III Scholar All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. The Crimson and Gray starting lineup, along with four key reserves, boasted a 3.49 GPA to earn top 30 program accolades for the third straight winter. The Engineers were 11th overall out of over 100 Division III wrestling programs. -
Marsh Competes for Wrestling at NCAA Division III Championships in Cleveland, Ohio
March 09, 2018CLEVELAND -- Tyler Marsh made his debut on the national stage on Friday, taking part in the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships hosted by Baldwin Wallace in Cleveland, Ohio. The sophomore, who finished second at the Northeast Regional hosted by WPI the last weekend in February was one of 18 competitors in the 157-pound weight class. -

Hall, in his eighth year guiding his alma mater, will be busy this weekend on and off the mat as the Engineers are hosting the NCAA Division III Northeast Wrestling Regionals Saturday and Sunday in the Sports & Recreation Center. -

Zogby, Jendritz, Marion and Wensley Lift Wrestling Past Springfield in Regular Season Finale
February 10, 2018WORCESTER -- Major decisions by Ben Zogby (Boston, MA) and Stephen Jendritz (Rockford, MI) and late wins from Brendan Marion (Norristown, PA) and Dan Wensley (Wakefield, MA) keyed WPI wrestling's 20-12 regular-season ending road victory on Saturday evening. The victory gives the Engineers an 18-4 dual meet record, the third most wins in a season in program history, and the most since the 1993-94 campaign which saw the Crimson and Gray win the New England championship. -
Wrestling Closes Out Regular Season Home Campaign by Defeating Bridgewater State & NYU
February 03, 2018WORCESTER -- Mike Ilic and Dan Wensley teamed up to win all four of their bouts at WPI wrestling swept two matches Saturday at its home super quad in the Sports & Recreation Center. The Engineers shutout Bridgewater State 47-0 in their opener before besting NYU 27-16 in the nightcap. -
Shrewsbury Shines for No. 21 Wrestling in Home Quad Meet Including No. 4 and No. 16
January 27, 2018WORCESTER -- Austin Shrewsbury won all three of his matches, including a victory over a nationally-ranked opponent and Jack Nigro went 2-0 on the day as nationally-ranked WPI hosted a wrestling quad on Saturday in the Sports & Recreation Center. The No.21 Engineers defeated Southern Maine 21-13 before suffering a 29-6 setback to No. 4 Johnson & Wales and falling 30-12 to No. 16 Brockport. -
Jendritz and Marion Help Wrestling Sweep New England Wrestling Association Weekly Honors
January 25, 2018Middletown, CT --- WPI Wrestling swept the weekly New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) awards announced by the conference on Thursday morning. Senior 133-pounder Stephen Jendritz was tabbed the NEWA Wrestler of the Week while freshman 165-pounder Brendan Marion was named the organization’s Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 21st. -

January 21, 2018Providence, RI -- Brendan Marion was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler as nationally-ranked WPI posted its best ever showing at the New England Wresting Association (NEWA) Dual Meet Championships on Sunday. The Engineers went 3-1 to finish third at the 16-team event hosted by Johnson & Wales at the Providence Career & Technical Academy. -
Marsh Nets Pair of Pins as Wrestling Sweeps Merchant Marine and Hunter
January 14, 2018NEW YORK -- Tyler Marsh tallied a pin in each match as WPI defeated Merchant Marine and Hunter in action Sunday contested at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the Bronx. The Engineers defeated the Mariners 26-9 in their opener before shutting out Hawks 58-0. -
Nigro, Marsh and Wensley Key Wrestling's Victory Over Coast Guard
January 10, 2018WORCESTER --- 184-pounder Dan Wensley registered a takedown in the final seconds of SV2 to spark WPI to a 20-12 come-from-behind victory over rival Coast Guard in a New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) match on Wednesday evening. The junior’s triumph gave the Engineers a 14-12 advantage and wins in the final two bouts by Michael Curtis and Austin Shrewsbury secured the win for hosts. -

January 06, 2018Hartford, CT --- Brendan Marion and Dan Wensley each won three bouts as WPI wrestling went 2-1 at a quad match at Trinity that featured three nationally-ranked teams. The No. 19 Engineers rallied to defeat No. 18 Roger Williams 19-15, dispatched host Trinity 30-9 and lost by tiebreaker to No. 20 Wesleyan 22-21. -

December 09, 2017Oneonta, NY --- The trio of Tyler Marsh, Dan Wensley and Michael Curtis were a perfect 3-0 as WPI won three matches Saturday, including one over a nationally-ranked opponent, at the Northeast Duals hosted by Oneonta State. Other multiple winners on the day included Ben Zogby, Stephen Jendritz, Jack Nigro and Brendan Marion as the Engineers (6-0) defeated Niagara Community College 40-8, host Oneonta State 27-9, and No. 16 Cortland State 36-6. -

December 07, 2017Middletown, CT --- WPI freshman Brendan Marion (Norristown, PA) has been selected as the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 3rd. The 165-pounder shared the honor with Dylan Da Silva (Bayville, NJ) of Plymouth State. -
