WORCESTER -- WPI made its 2017-2018 home debut a successful one on Saturday, winning 19 of 20 bouts en route to sweeping King's (PA) and Norwich during a super quad in the Sports & Recreation Center.  The Engineers opened the day with a 46-3 victory over the Monarchs and then blanked the Cadets 47-0.

Against King's (PA) Michael Aquino (Boston, MA) got the day started with a 10-7 win at 125 pound and Stephen Jendritz (Rockford, MI) had his hand raised with a forfeit win at 133.  After Jacob Taylor (Kennett Square, PA) got the visitors on the board with a 12-6 triumph at 141, the Crimson and Gray closed the match with seven straight victories.  Pete Nash (Liverpool, NY) got the run started with a 18-4 major decision at 149 and then was followed by quick first period pins by Tyler Marsh (Upper Black Eddy, PA) and Chase Lind (Fairfield, CT) at 157 and 165.

The 174 and 184-pound bouts saw Mike Ilic (Parsippany, NJ) and Dan Wensley (Wakefield, MA) take forfeits before Michael Curtis (Wells, ME) built up a large lead at 197 before pinning his opponent at 6:41.  The contest's best match came at heavyweight as WPI's Austin Shrewsbury (Westfield, MA) and King's Ralph Bernardo (Rockville, MD) wrestled the full allotment of overtime (10 minutes total wrestling time) with Shrewsbury getting the decision 4-3 on riding time in tiebreaker four.

Ben Zogby (Franklin, MA) got WPI off to a great start versus Norwich with a fall just 34 seconds into his bout at 125 points.  Jendritz then grinded out an 8-6 victory over a fellow regionally-ranked opponent at 133 before Andrew Ellis (Arlington, MA) sent the Engineer crowd into a frenzy with a reversal in the final seconds to earn a 9-8 victory at 141.

Jack Nigro (Closter, NJ) put WPI up 15-0 when he posted a 7-3 triumph at 149 and then Marsh got a multi-point win when he recorded a 17-0 second period tech fall at 157.  Pins by Lind at 165 and Ilic at 174 proceeded a tidy 4-1 decision by Wensley at 184.  The Boynton Hillers closed out the match with six-point performances as Curtis won by injury default at 197 and Shrewsbury pinned his regionally-ranked opponent at 285 in 1:58.
