New London, CT --- The brother tandem of senior Tyler Marsh (Upper Back Eddy, PA) and freshman Adam Marsh (Upper Back Eddy, PA) each went 2-0 Saturday as WPI wrestling split a pair of matches at the Coast Guard Quad. The Engineers knocked off Bridgewater State 37-12 in the second dual after falling 33-9 to No. 9 ranked NYU to open the day.
In the victory over the Bears, WPI won seven straight bouts after the Bears took a forfeit at 125 pounds. Chris Cook (Mount Kisco, NY) started the streak for the Crimson and Gray with a first period pin (2:41) against his opponent at 133 pounds. Carter Lewis (Westwood, NJ) took a forfeit at 141 to extend the Engineers lead.
Tyler Marsh and David Gibson (Goffstown, NH) battled for major decisions at 165 (13-0) and 174 (8-0), respectively. To close out the scoring for the Engineers, Adam Marsh stuck his opponent with 25 seconds left in the first period to further solidify the victory.
WPI combined for nine points in the opening dual of the day against NYU with the duo of Tyler Marsh and Adam Marsh at 165 and 184, respectively. Tyler Marsh pinned his NYU opponent in the waning seconds of the first period. Adam Marsh fought hard to earn himself a 4-3 decision.
The Engineers (7-14) close out the dual meet season next weekend, traveling to Springfield for a 7pm contest on Saturday and hosting Western New England on Sunday at 2pm in their annual Spotlight Match in Harrington Auditorium.
