Worcester, MA --- The WPI women's rowing hosted a regatta Sunday on Lake Quinsigamond that featured three of the top four varsity eight boats in Division III plus the No. 10 and No. 12 ranked crews. Fourth-ranked Trinity defeated top-ranked Wellesley by just 0.26 seconds while third ranked Bates was third, No. 10 WPI fourth and No. 12 Rochester fifth.
WPI's varsity eight comprised of Corre Steele (Stow, MA), Anisa Swei (Brookline, MA), Maggie Freed (Staunton, VA), Brooke Cotta (Bristol, RI), Julie Waddell (Phoenix, AZ), Elisabeth Boulanger (Grafton, MA), Liz Audet (Terryville, CT), Sandra Garcia-Fine (Cobleskill, NY) and coxswain Jess Prashaw (East Greenbush, NY) hit the finish line in a time of 6:55.78.
The second varsity eight made up of Rebecca Barolli (Middlebury, CT), Rachael Matty (Pomfret Center, CT), Victoria Loehle (Morganville, NJ), Emily Hofmeister (Mission Hills, KS), Kayla McAvoy (Old Saybrook, CT ), Christina Bottom (Auburn, MA), Arianna Niro (Milford, MA), Kelsey Stergiou (Manchester, NH) and coxswain Dominique Throop (Fairfax Station, VA) was fifth clocking a time of 7:32.14.
The third varsity eight of Sarah Smith (San Jose, CA), Audrey Allen (Topsfield, MA), Zulean Cruz-Diaz (Pharr, TX ), Kristin Olson (San Diego, CA), Alexa Hiznay (Trumbull, CT), Jennifer Golden (Norton, MA), Julia Pershken (Albion, ME), Sarah Bucknam (Johnston, RI) and coxswain Nicole Quintal (Colchester, VT) continued its strong weekend by placing third. The Engineers crossed the line in 7:29.36, nearly 15 seconds ahead of NEWMAC rival Wellesley.
WPI Women's Rowing is back in action Saturday on Lake Quinsigamond, competing in the NEWMAC Championships hosted by Clark.
