Women's Rowing Earns Medal at Prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta

Head of the Charles - WPI Women's Rowing 2021

Cambridge, MA --- For the third consecutive occasion, WPI women's rowing took home a medal at the venerable Head of the Charles Regatta. The varsity eight finished in fourth place in the Collegiate Eights while the second varsity eight placed 26th overall. 

The varsity eight posted a time of 17:38.077, finishing ahead of fifth place Tufts by nearly four seconds.  At the HOTC, five medals are given out when 40 or more boats entered.  Division II Mercyhurst won the 40-boat race in a time of 17:16.794, while Wellesley (17:19.578) placed second and defending event winner and NCAA champion Bates (17:22.050) was third.

The Engineers were the ninth fastest boat at the initial check point at Riverside (4:11.901) but by the time they reached the Weld check point, the Crimson and Gray were (9:45.019) and held that position at the Cambridge Boat Club (14:41.169). 

The second varsity eight turned in a time of 18:43.562 and rallied from three seconds down at the second check point to defeat an entry from Ohio State while also besting a boat from Clemson. 

WPI closes out the 2021 fall season on Saturday, October 30th competing on Lake Quinsigamond in the Wormtown Chase Regatta.
