Worcester, MA--- Freshman Tracy Sales (Cumberland, RI) netted a pair of goals to help lift regionally-ranked Western Connecticut to a 3-0 road victory over WPI in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday evening.  With the result, the Colonials even their record at 1-1 while the Engineers slip to 1-3.

Sales got the scoring started 5:36 into the match when she knocked home a nifty feed from Jennifer Duran (Uncasville, CT) for her first collegiate goal.  Western Connecticut extended its advantage to 2-0 when Amanda Genova (New Milford, CT) drilled a free kick into the back of the net from 20 yards out.

The Colonials, ranked fifth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) New England regional poll, closed out the scoring early in the second half when Sales buried a pass from the foot of Nicole Sieber (Newtown, CT) just 66 seconds into the second stanza.

Western Connecticut goalkeepers Molly Miller (Middlebury, CT) and Amanda Simon (Brick, NJ) combined on the shutout for the visitors.  Miller went the first 61 minutes for the Colonials and was credited with their only save of the game.  Rebecca Newman (Howell, NJ) played well between the pipes for the Engineers, making eight saves on the night.  The hosts were aided late in the second half by a save off the line by senior Liz Tuite (Hopkinton, MA).

On the night, the Colonials enjoyed a 19-2 edge in shots and took eight of the game's nine corner kicks.  Kristen Garza (Kingston, MA) led the WPI offensive attack with a pair of shots.

WPI returns to action on Saturday as the third game of an tripleheader at Alumni Field.  The Engineers will entertain Fitchburg State at 4:30pm after Men's Soccer and Field Hockey have home contests at 11am and 2pm respectively.  Western Connecticut participates in the Manhatttanville Tournament this weekend.  The Colonials will face Montclair State on Saturday at 2:30pm before squaring off with the host Valiants at the same time on Sunday.
