Sylvia Bags Goal in Women's Soccer's Loss at Western Conn

Danbury, CT --- Sophomore transfer Katherine Ogden (Stamford, CT) scored the games' first two goals as the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team defeated WPI 6-1 victory at The WAC on Thursday night.

Ogden, who last played collegiate soccer at Manhattan College, put the Colonials up with in the 29th and 39th minute and the Colonials took a 2-0 lead into intermission.

Shortly after the second stanza began, graduate student Nicole Sieber (Newtown, CT) added her second goal of the season to put WestConn ahead, 3-0. She assisted on two other markers for the winners.

WestConn, 2-1, netted a pair of goals over the next 14 minutes to take a 5-0 advantage. First Lauren Matthews (Monroe, CT) turned inside the box and blasted her second goal by Maddie Willer (Penfield, NY).

Tracy Sales (Cumberland, RI) blasted a low liner from 35 yards away for her team-leading third goal at the 59:42 mark.

WPI's Nica Sylvia (Martha's Vineyard, MA) scored the Engineer's lone goal in the 81st minute. Freshman Megan Forti (Lynn,MA) was credited with the assist on the play, the first point of her collegiate career.

Jessica Zingle (Middletown, CT) added her team-leading third goal in the closing minutes for the Colonials.

Caitlin Avery (East Hampton, CT) earned the win in net for WestConn without having to make a save. Amanda Simon (Brick, NJ) made one save after relieving Avery in the 64th minute.

Miller made four stops for the Engineers before yielding to Melissa Cowan (West Boylston, MA) for the final 30 minutes. Cowan made two saves.

WestConn travels to Wheaton for a non-conference affair on Saturday, September 11. Game time is slated for 3 pm.  WPI wraps up a brief two-game road trip on Saturday with a 10am matchup at Fitchburg State.
