Leicester, MA --- Megan Forti (Lynn, MA) netted a pair of goals to lift visiting WPI to a hard-earned 3-1 win over Becker in a non-conference contest played on Wednesday evening. The victory is the season-best fourth straight for the Engineers, who improve to 7-9-1 on the year. The Hawks are now 5-12 overall.
The Engineers scored the lone goal of the first half when a Becker defender fell down, allowing Forti to break free one on one with Becker goalkeeper Alena Phongsa (Putnam, CT) Forti took advantage of the opportunity by ripping a shot into the top right corner of the net for her 12th goal of the season.
WPI increased their lead in the 62nd minute when Kristen Garza (Kingston, MA) scored her sixth goal of the season on a beautiful centering pass from Lindsey Grasis (East Brookfield, Mass.). Becker cut the Engineers lead to 2-1 when Christina Boucher (Pawcatuck, CT) redirected a shot that slipped through the hands of the WPI goalkeeper. WPI put the game out of reach in the 84th minute when Megan Forti scored her second goal of the game on an assist from Kelly Ames (Glastonbury, CT).
Freshman goalkeeper Maddie Willer (Penfield, NY) made three saves in a winning effort. With the victory the Engineers improve to 7-9-1 on the season. Alena Phongsa played the majority of the game for the Hawks, making five saves in a losing effort.
