Women's Soccer Shutout 2-0 on the Road at Salem State

Salem, MA --- The Salem State Vikings earned their first win of the 2011 season with a 2-0 victory against the Engineers of WPI.  Both now are now 1-1 on the young season.

The shutout was highlighted by goals from CeCelia Cresta-Devine (Saugus, MA) and Bianca Gallo (Peabody, MA).

The game was scoreless until Cresta-Devine found the back of the net on a feed from Casey Connolly (Nahant, MA) at 39:02 of the first period.  The Vikings increased their lead to 2-0 when captain Jackie Gauthier assisted on Gallo's first goal of the season in the 56th minute.

SSU goaltender Leah Potcner (Wilmington, MA) offered a shutout performance with two saves to earn the win.  Crimson and Gray goalkeeper Maddie Willer (Penfield, NY) had one save in the loss.

The game was tightly contested in the midfield as SSU had just five shots while WPI managed just two shots, both by Megan Forti (Lynn, MA).

WPI is action again on Tuesday at 4pm against Gordon while Salem State travels to Babson on Wednesday afternoon.
