Fitchburg, MA --- Three different student-athletes scored for WPI, including an early goal by junior midfielder Emily Doherty (Shrewsbury, MA), as the Engineers halted a four-game skid with a 3-1 triumph over Fitchburg State on Saturday in a non-conference women's soccer contest at Elliot Field.

WPI opened the scoring just 2:24 into the first half as jDoherty lofted a shot from 20 yards out into the upper right corner of the net for her team-leading fifth goal of the season for the 1-0 lead.
The Engineers nearly doubled their lead at the 35:51 mark when sophomore Janine Fatal (Amesbury, MA) blasted a shot on frame but Falcon defender Sarah Haley (Holbrook, MA) deflected the ball off the goal line to keep the score 1-0 after 45 minutes of play.

In the second half, WPI upped its margin in the 49th minute of play as sophomore forward Emma Turton (Mechanic Falls, ME) received a feed from newcomer Karina Larson (Storrs, CT) and fired a shot inside the near post for the 2-0 advantage.

The Crimson and Grey took a 3-0 lead roughly 11 minutes later when junior Julia Macleod (Corinth, ME) crossed the ball over to sophomore Erin Bracken (Bridgewater, MA), who then headed a shot into the back of the net for her second tally of the season.

Fitchburg State broke its scoring silence at the 85:39 mark as sophomore forward Victoria Floeck (East Taunton, MA) collected a corner kick off the foot of senior Kimberly Carroll (Tewksbury, MA) and connected for her first collegiate score, resulting in the 3-1 final.
