WORCESTER -- Sophomore Erica Chalmers (Natick, MA) scored the game-winning goal for Wellesley in the 108th minute to secure the 1-0 double overtime victory over host WPI in a NEWMAC women's soccer matchup Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

Chalmers snuck the ball inside the left post for her second tally of the season and the Blue's (6-5-2, 1-4-1 NEWMAC) first conference win of the campaign. WPI, who entered the week 10th in the NSCAA NCAA Division III New England poll, slipped to 9-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in league play.

Wellesley senior Kat Goldsmith (Armonk, NY) stopped a game-best seven shots, including three in the first overtime, while Engineer junior Abbey Teliska (LaGrangeville, NY) turned away an attempt by sophomore Zoe Matticks (Minneapolis, MN) early in the second half and sophomore Melise Knowles (Diablo, CA) in the 107th minute.

Junior Emma Turton (Mechanic Falls, ME) and senior Emily Doherty (Shrewsbury, MA) each logged a trio of shots on goal to go along with one from junior Lynn Renner (Aberdeen, SD). Doherty produced the Engineers best chance of the contest in the 99th minute but her bid was denied by Goldsmith before glancing off the crossbar.

In all, WPI enjoyed an 18-3 margin in shots and were awarded all of the contests corner kicks.

Both teams continue NEWMAC play Tuesday as the Engineers hit the road for a 4pm contest at Smith and Wellesley returns to Worcester to face Clark at 6:30pm.
