WORCESTER --- Clark's women's soccer team opened up NEWMAC play with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Engineers of WPI on Saturday afternoon.

Clark set the pace early in the game with a lot of offensive pressure through the first 45 minutes of play. The Cougars outshot the Engineers 10-0 in the first half.

With 14 minutes on the clock sophomore Taylor Barbieri (Glastonbury, CT) put the Cougars on the board. She ripped a shot that was initially saved by WPI goalkeeper, Gabriela Hoops (Stonington, CT), but Barbieri recovered the rebound and finished at the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. Clark held onto that lead heading into the halftime break.

Less than one minute into the second half Clark tallied their second goal. Senior Macy Golman (Dallas, TX) found sophomore Inonge Kaloustian (Bowie, MD) in the middle of the box and Kaloustian took Hoops one-vs-one and put it by her left side for the 2-0 advantage.

Five minutes later the Cougars struck again, this time it was junior Megan Marocco (Swampscott, MA). Kaloustian released the initial shot that was saved by Hoops but Marocco was there to scoop up the rebound and put it in the back left corner (3-0).

WPI saw a bid for a goal when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 56th minute of play. Junior Kristen McCrea (Weymouth, MA) lined up for the shot and aimed for the bottom right corner. Clark goalkeeper, Alison Carroll's (Douglas, MA) fingertips redirected the ball to the post and she recovered the ricocheted ball that almost rolled over the goal line as the Cougars held onto the 3-0 lead.

With 17 minutes remaining WPI spoiled Clark's run for a shutout. Junior Becca Hapgood (Halifax, MaA) found sophomore Leah Beauton (Colchester, CT) at the top of the box who lifted the ball to the top left-center of the net (3-1). Ellie Patten (Scarborough, ME) hit the cross part for WPI in the 88th minute but Clark held the Engineers off for the remainder of the game to take home the final 3-1 NEWMAC victory.

Clark outshot WPI 17-8 over 90 minutes of play. 11 of Clark's shots were on goal while WPI put three shots on goal.  Both teams were awarded two corner kicks.

Carroll made two saves in net for Clark and improves to 2-1-1 on the season while Hoops made eight saves for the Engineers and falls to 5-1 on the season.

Clark hosts UMass-Dartmouth on Tuesday at 7pm. They will also be hosting their "Play with Pride Game" that evening.  WPI travels to Trinity on Sunday, for a non-conference contest at noon.
