What a Beaut(on) – Women’s Soccer Holds Off Trinity in 2019 Home Opener

WORCESTER – Leah Beauton (Colchester, CT) bookended a trio of goals in a span of 4:13 as the WPI women's soccer team earned its first win over Trinity in the four-year history of the series with a 3-2 triumph Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium. In addition to reaching 80 career points, Kristen McCrea (Weymouth, MA) moved into a tie for third all-time with 22 assists and fourth all-time with 29 goals.

The Engineers remain perfect at 4-0 while the Bantams move to 1-2 on the season. The teams first met in what ended as a scoreless draw in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship at William Smith.

Colleen Lux (Shaker Heights, OH) put the guests on the board off an assist by Delaney Markham (Winchester, MA) in the 41st minute. After the break, Beauton and McCrea teamed up to level the game at 50:01. McCrea then made it 2-1 at 53:41. Thirty-five seconds later, Beauton netted the game-winning goal at 54:14. Aspen Hawkins (Banks, OR) later cut the deficit to one at 75:47.

Mandy St. Germain (Worcester, MA) amassed five saves before exiting in the 79th minute while Kelsey Leach (Tolland, CT) made a heart-stopping save in relief. Taylor O'Connor (Danvers, MA) and Jennifer Stuart (Newburyport, MA) each made four stops for Trinity.

WPI outshot Trinity 20-14 for the game and 11-8 on-goal. Corner kicks were at a premium with the Engineers taking three of the four awarded in the contest.

The Crimson and Gray travel to Tufts on Thursday for a 4:30pm start. The Bantams head to Colby for an 11am contest on Saturday.
