WORCESTER -- Myah Croze (Bristol, VT) tallied a goal with just under three minutes remaining in regulation to help visiting Western Connecticut to a thrilling 2-1 victory over WPI in the Engineers home opener.

WestConn is now 1-0 on the young season while the Crimson and Gray sees their record even at 1-1.

The match appeared destined for overtime until Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, CT) made a long run down the middle of the field and passed to Croze on the right side.  The junior dribbled the goal and her shot went in towards the far post at 87:13.

WPI had a pair of chances to force overtime late but Annika Keck's (Oakland, CA) diving header went wide right and a free kick in waning seconds did not produce a scoring opportunity.

The visitors got on the board midway through the first half.  Skylar Couillard (Newington, CT) ripped a shot for Western Connecticut that was cleared off the line by WPI's Allison Escott (Columbia, CT), deflected off another Engineer player, and knocked home by Kyla Norton (East Hampton, CT) at 22:31.

WPI evened the match in the 60th minute when Lilly Proulx (New Boston, NH) settled a pass from Ashleigh Matsis (Milford, NH) 20 yards away from goal, took a dribble and blasted home her first goal of the season.

For the match, WPI enjoyed 22-14 edge in shots while Western Connecticut held a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.

Karly Martin (Bristol, CT) recorded 10 saves in net for the guests while Lili Hellermann (Ashland, MA) made six stops for the Engineers.

WPI closes outs a quick two-game homestand on Tuesday, hosting city rival Worcester State on Tuesday at 7pm.  Western Connecticut is back in action Sunday, playing a 1pm match at Western New England.
