Hartford, CT --- Trinity scored on either side of halftime and held off a late WPI surge to hand the Engineers a 2-1 defeat in non-conference women's soccer action on Friday evening at Trinity Soccer Field.
Molly Vincent (Douglas, MA) scored her third goal of the season in the 73rd minute to cut the WPI deficit in half, but the Engineers couldn't find an equalizer and fell to 2-2 on the year.
The goal came off a wide sequence. Madison Bagby (Aurora, CO) drew a foul and Annika Keck (Oakland, CA) launched the ensuing free kick into the box. Caitlin Bonavita (Wilbraham, MA) collected the ball and launched a shot that hit the cross bar. After a scramble, Vincent headed the ball into the middlle the net.
Bonavita had a scoring chance in the final minute and a half, but her header off of a free kick sailed wide of the Trinity goal, which was minded all night by Mariana Cournoyer (St. Paul, MN).
The home team capitalized on a 7-2 shot advantage in the first half, taking the lead when Colleen Lux (Shaker Heights, OH) found the back of the net three minutes before halftime.
Three minutes after the break, the Bantams doubled their lead with a strike from Whitney Hoban (Winnetka, IL). They finished the night with a 13-5 edge in shots, including 7 shots on goal, and a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Wolfgang's marker came on the only shot on goal that WPI registered all night. Cournoyer was not forced into a save as she recorded the shutout for the Bantams, while Lauren Paul (Schaghticoke, NY) made five stops between the pipes for WPI.
The Engineers will be right back at it on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Rhode Island College for a 1:00pm kickoff.
Trinity (2-0) also has a two-day turnaround, staying home to face MIT on Sunday at 12pn
