WORCESTER -- The WPI women's soccer team got back in the win column with a 1-0 blanking of cross-town rival Worcester State on Friday night at Coughlin Field.
The game-winner came in the 68th minute of action when Molly Vincent (Douglas, MA) netted her first goal of the season giving the Engineers the edge in the showdown.
Vincent took three of WPI's 35 shots on the night including a pair on goal. The go-ahead goal came off of a cross from the left side from Hannah Wolfgang (Holliston, MA) who netted her second assist of the season. The cross hit Vincent in the center of the field as she looped a shot over the top of the Lancer netminder.
Kelsey Leach (Tolland, CT) and Lili Hellerman (Ashland, MA) teamed up for the shutout as Hellerman posted a trio of saves as she notched her first win of the season against Worcester State on the night. The Lancer goalkeeper Mallory Dupuis (Leominster, MA) faced 11 shots on goal, allowing just the one, but it was enough for an Engineer victory.
WPI dominated on all facets on the evening outshooting Worcester 35-11 (11-5 on goal) while forcing seven corner kicks to the Lancers' one. Michaela O'Brien (Bedford, MA) finished with four of Worcester State's 11 shots on the night.
WPI is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 14 when the Engineers play host to Union at 7 pm while Worcester State returns to the pitch looking for its first victory of the year at Gordon on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7 pm.
