BOSTON -- A three-goal first half for the Lions was enough as Emerson routed the WPI women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon finishing with a 4-0 victory.

Gina Lukoskie (Mechanicsburg, PA) finished with a pair of goals on the day for Emerson (3-2-2, 1-0-0 NEWMAC), who picked up a conference-opening win on the day.

The Lions got things going in the 12th minute of play with a Lukoskie goal, her first of the day. After Lukoskie's first shot of the match was stopped by WPI netminder Kelsey Leach (Tolland, CT), she followed up a minute later with the score. Lukoskie added another tally six minutes later to put the Lions up 2-0 early into the game.

Emerson added a third goal before the half when Lauren Carlson (Fountain Hills, AZ) found the back of the net with less than 90 seconds to go in the stanza and then the Lions added another goal in the 48th minute of action early into the half to bolster its lead to four goals with a Caitlin Johnston (Phoenix, AZ) score.

Caitlin Bonavita (Wilbraham, MA) recorded a pair of shots on the day as five other Engineers came up short with a shot apiece combining for four shots on goal against the hosting Lions.

After Leach saw the first half of action, Lili Hellerman (Ashland, MA) stepped in for the final 45 minutes. Leach finished with two saves and three goals allowed while Hellerman also made a pair of saves and allowed one goal. Amara Schaub (Torrance, CA) faced just four shots on goal on the day for Emerson, making all four saves.

WPI (3-4-1, 0-1-1) returns to the pitch on Monday, Sept. 26 to close out the month with a 7 pm contest as they host UMass Boston. Emerson is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 27 when they play host to Castleton at 6 pm.
