Dorenfeld Notches Double-Double as Volleyball Splits Tri-Match

Springfield, MA --- Elyssa Dorenfeld (Reading, MA) amassed 32 kills and 18 digs in two matches, including a double-double as WPI split a pair of non-conference volleyball contests Saturday at Western New England. As a result, WPI moves to 19-5 on the season.

The Engineers dropped their first match of the day to Elmira 3-0. Set one saw the Soaring Eagles win 25-6, while the final two sets had identical scores of 25-22.

Dorenfeld recorded 13 kills and three digs for the Crimson and Gray. Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) contributed 12 digs, while Kim Woodward (Clifton Park, NY) assisted on 25 kills.

WPI and Western New England went five thrilling sets, with the Engineers coming out the victors, 3-2. The Golden Bears won the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-21. WPI fought back to take the third and fourth set (25-23 and 26-24) before earning the 15-13 win in the deciding set.

Dorenfeld picked up a double-double as she registered 19 kills and 14 digs. Kerrin Beovich (Seaford, NY) and Bailey Sarber (Westerly, RI) each tallied 11 kills for the Engineers. Woodward amassed 41 assists for a total of 66 on the day. Lauren D'Angelo (Wallingford, CT) combined with Porambo with 19 digs apiece.

WPI hosts Springfield in a key NEWMAC matchup Tuesday night at 7pm.
