Aces Up - Strong Serving Fuels Volleyball to Tri-Match Sweep

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Alyssa Fidanza (Ellington, CT) rattled off 10 aces in the opener and Kerrin Beovich (Seaford, NY) was a perfect 7-for-7 hitting in the nightcap as the WPI Volleyball to Buzzards Bay on Saturday and came away with a pair of 3-0 victories over Maine Presque Isle and host Mass Maritime.

In their first match against Maine Presque-Isle, Fidanza's service aces were huge as she chipped in two kills and seven digs. Beovich had six kills and four digs. Alyssa Corini (Pompton Plains, NJ) had five kills and five digs. The Crimson and Gray took advantage of 25 service aces against the Owls to win handily, 25-10, 25-8, 25-11.

The Engineers would match that serving performance against Massachusetts Maritime, again serving up 25 aces. Sarah Cook (New Paltz, NY) would have a team-high six of those, as well as four digs. In addition to her impressive hitting, Beovich added two service aces and a block. Belinda Nwagbara (Santa Rosa, CA) had six kills and three service aces while Bailey Sarber (Westerly, RI) had five kills in just six attempts while also contributing three aces.  The team's impressive defense helped them cruise 25-7, 25-7, 25-4.

WPI will look to extend their winning streak to nine games when they visit defending NEWMAC Tournament champion Coast Guard this Tuesday in a 7pm match. Massachusetts Maritime heads to Pine Manor on Wednesday for their next contest with a 7pm start time. Maine Presque-Isle travels to another tri-match next Saturday against Maine-Farmington and Maine-Fort Kent.
