Beovich and Fidanza Sizzle in Volleyball's 3-0 Victory over Lesley

Worcester, MA --- Kerrin Beovich (Seaford, NY) smacked a match-best 13 kills and Alyssa Fidanza (Ellington, CT) handed out a career-high 24 assists to help WPI defeat Lesley 3-0 in its home opener on Thursday evening.  The Engineers took the contest by scores of 25-15, 25-15, 25-22. 

WPI (4-2) got out to a quick start behind the setting of Alyssa Corini (Pompton Plains, NJ) and never trailed in the opening set.  The Crimson and Gray hit.364 in the second stanza before closing out the third set, which featured 10 ties and three lead changes, by tallying five of the match's last six points. 

Beovich equaled her career-best hitting percentage of .524 while only making two errors in her 21 attempts.  Belinda Nwagbara (Santa Rosa, CA) chipped in with seven kills and no errors in nine attempts (.778) while freshman Jenny Wallace (Holden, MA) totaled four kills to go along with six digs.  

Lauren D'Angelo (Wallingford, CT) led all players with 11 digs on the night while Alex Rangel (Weston, FL) cracked double figures in assists with 10.   Freshman Lauren Lasky (Watervliet, NY) played a huge part in WPI's match-ending spurt with a kill and then three serves that led to points. 

Alyson Finbow (Fair Lawn, NJ) led a balance Lesley (1-3) offensive attack with five kills and just one error in 15 attempts (.267).  The visitors also received four kills from both Danielle Johnson (Waterford, CT) and Megan Ortwein (Shanghai, China) while Donna Niosi (Quincy, MA) was credited with all 16 of the Lynx assists on the night.  

Danielle McDonald aided the defensive efforts with a team-high seven digs while Kaitlyn Miller (Leesport, PA) paced all players with three service aces. 

WPI is back in action Saturday at the Worcester City Tournament.  The Engineers face NEWMAC rival and two-time defending Clark at 1pm and host Worcester State at 3pm.  Lesley is off until next Thursday when it entertains Salem State at 8pm.
