Volleyball Celebrates Parent's Day with 3-0 win over Bridgewater State

Worcester, MA --- Kerrin Beovich (Seaford, NY) totaled nine kills with two big blocks to lead WPI to a 3-0 win over visiting Bridgewater State on Saturday afternoon in non-conference volleyball action. Set scores were 25-23, 25-13, 25-19 in favor of the Crimson and Gray. The Engineers of WPI are now 10-5 while the Bears of Bridgewater drop to 6-6 on the season.

Beovich added seven digs and a service ace. Alex Rangel (Weston, FL) finished with a match-high 32 set assists to go along with six digs. Holly Ganser (Seward, AK) and Belinda Nwagbara (Santa Rosa, CA) each contributed six kills in the winning effort. Lauren D' Angelo (Wallingford, CT) led the defense with 16 digs. Elyssa Dorenfeld (Reading, MA) added five kills and four digs.

For Bridgewater State, Julie Hutchins (Bellingham, MA) led the Bears with six kills a block and a service ace. Carolyn Morin (Marstons Mills, MA) and Michelle Atkins (Chelsea, MA) each added four kills. Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, MA) finished with 14 assists and nine digs. Kristen Robillard (Swansea, MA) had a team-high 13 digs.

Down 4-1 early in the first set, WPI exploded with a 14 to 3 run to take a commanding lead. The Bears responded with solid fundamentals to pull within one at 16-15. The rest of the first was highly competitive, with WPI nursing a one-point lead at 23-22. But Dorenfeld came through for the Crimson and Gray in the clutch, coming up with the kill for the set point, 25-22. In the second set, WPI left no doubt to the result, never trailing and leading by as much as 12 en route to a 25-13 win. Closing out the match in the third set, WPI slowly grinded their way to the win and the sweep in a 25-19 result.

Up next for WPI, the team travels to Smith on Tuesday for a 7pm match. Bridgewater State returns to action on Saturday when they host Newbury at 6pm.
