Volleyball Runs the Table at St. Joseph’s (LI) Tournament With Pair of Victories

Patchogue, NY --- Elyssa Dorenfeld (Reading, MA) and Belinda Nwagbara (Santa Rosa, CA) each smacked 13 kills to help WPI defeat Oneonta State 3-1 in a match-up of teams that were previously undefeated in the St. Joseph's (LI) Invitational on Saturday.  The Crimson and Gray claimed the de facto championship match by set scores of 25-15, 13-25, 25-23, 25-23.  

Earlier in the day WPI blanked Ramapo 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-23) and ends the weekend 4-0 and is now 15-6 on the season. 

In the Oneonta State match, Holly Ganser (Seward, AK) and Jenny Wallace (Holden, MA) each chipped in with seven kills while Alyssa Fidanza (Ellington, CT) reaching her career-high for the second match in by doling out 37 assists.  Lauren D'Angelo (Wallingford, CT) amassed 17 digs while Dorenfeld completed a double-double with 12 digs to go along with her 13 kills and also contributed a pair of aces. 

Against Ramapo, Long Island native Kerrin Beovich (Seaford, NY) registered 10 kills without an error in 19 attempts en route to posting an outstanding .455 hitting percentage.  Dorenfeld continued her strong stretch of play with 12 kills and nine digs.  Bailey Sarber (Westerly, RI) aided the offensive attack with eight kills and Fidanza, Alyssa Corini (Pompton Plains, NJ) and Jocelyn Close (Ellington, CT) all nailed three service aces.  Fidanza dished out 37 assists while D'Angelo led all players with 40 digs. 

WPI returns to New England on Tuesday for a key NEWMAC match with city rival Clark.  First serve is slated for 7pm.
